QI series 6: Fire & Freezing
This year for the QI Christmas Special (shown on BBC1) Stephen Fry and Alan Davies were joined by Dom Joly, Clive Anderson and Rob Brydon for a festive edition of the comedy panel quiz based around a fire theme.
Interestingly it wasn’t Alan Davies walking into the siren traps this episode but more Rob Brydon (I mean who hasn’t said at one time or another ‘oh it won’t snow today, its too cold to snow’ ), and he was funny with his detailed explanation that smoke not fire kills, and his dismissal of a heckler as he did his Richard Burton voice – “You wouldn’t know a good impression if it sat on your face.” I could mention other jokes but most were of an adult persuasion if you know what I mean (especially Fry who this time pushed the boundaries) so if you didn’t catch it I would recommend a visit to the BBC iplayer to see it yourself.

Gallery strikes again!
I haven’t actually seen the film myself yet but some of the Gallery employees have and they give a mixture of reviews about it, some say plenty of great action, some say too much action, but they all say they noticed a Gallery Arched inset in M’s bathroom (for a brief moment) Last time it was her living room, now its her bathroom - she’s like a walking advert for Gallery.
This is the Bartello Agean Limestone Mantel with the Radley Cast Iron Insert shown in a highlighted finish (that’s black with polished details). This Fireplace can be used for Solid Fuel, Gas or Electric so there is an option for everyone and would make for a beautiful Christmas Fireside setting im sure.
The Quantum of Solace IMDb rating is 7.2 out of 10 and to date there are 26,119 votes.

Only 5 weeks to go folks! Are you expected to prepare a Christmas feast for all the family and feeling slightly stressed about the prospect? Relax a little and take some advice from James Martin in his special Christmas Edition Magazine (how handy). Choose from a selection of Christmas Eve recipes, Christmas Day recipes, Boxing Day recipes, gorgeous Christmas Desserts, and best of all Christmas Cocktails
Obviously I can’t tell you too much about the magazine as I’m sure I will be infringing on some sort of copy right law but there is an interesting interview and a chance to win his new book ‘Driven’ in which he reveals how his hunger for success and love of speed has led him from a working class childhood in North Yorkshire (also my place of heritage, and not very working class in my opinion ) to the life in the fast lane as one of Britain’s best loved TV chefs.
This special edition magazine is available now from all good newsagents WH Smiths and Sainsburys,
Oh and of course look out for the beautiful Gallery fireplace on page 153.

Have you heard the news that David Tennant is stepping down as Doctor Who.
“When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won’t be with me,” he said.
“Now don’t make me cry,” he added. “I love this part, and I love this show so much that if I don’t take a deep breath and move on now I never will, and you’ll be wheeling me out of the Tardis in my bath chair.” I cant believe that it was back in 2005 that David Tennant stepped into the Tardis and on to our screens (how time fly’s when your a time lord)! So I feel compelled to mention the Fireplace related episode that was aired on 6th May 2006 (this is a Fireplace blog after all).
Entitled The Girl in the Fireplace” (fourth episode of the second series) It is the only episode in the 2006 series written by Steven Moffat, and Sophia Myles guest-starred as the historical figure Madame de Pompadour.
The episode takes place in multiple time periods as the Tenth Doctor and characters Rose and Mickey find time windows leading to 18th century France and a group of clockwork androids using them to stalk Madame de Pompadour throughout her life. Doctor Who writer Russell T. Davies described the episode as a love story for the Doctor. Overall, “The Girl in the Fireplace” was well-received by most critics despite the time constraints imposed on the plot; the episode was nominated for a Nebula Award and won the 2007 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form.

Hello, welcome to my first blog. I am not very experienced in the world of blogging, but I am experienced in the world of Fireplaces and with 8 years under my belt I hope I can tell you some interesting facts and offer you advice if you need it - all you will need to do is ask me.
Im sure most people are eagerly waiting for the latest Bond film to bless our screens, (the ‘Quantum of Solace’ due for release in the cinema 31st October) but you’ve go to feel sorry for the kids I mean they could be knocking on the doors of some empty houses that Halloween night the poor mites.

Large Nexus Basket
In 2006 we saw the Debut of Daniel Craig in ‘Casino Royale’ as the new James Bond in what was actually the 21st film in the Bond series, and I’m proud to say that the Gallery Large Nexus Basket (as above) made a fantastic impression as it set a light in a tense character building scene between M and the new blond 007, the scene was is actually the first time that M’s home appears in any of the Bond films after 007 breaks in to use her computer.
Small Cottage Basket

And speaking of famous Gallery Firebaskets keep a look out in the queen Vic on Albert square for the Small Cottage basket (as above), some time ago during one of their comical escapades Gary and Minty fitted this fire for Peggy, please take this as a lesson of how not to fit a fire, always speak to your retailer and make sure a competent Hetas or Corgi fitter completes your installation!
